The Doctor Is In: Dr. Salim Ghorra

A warm smile, a reserved manner, a gentle spirit, and an accomplished physician, Dr. Salim Ghorra is the only surgeon in Cheraw. We don’t often meet a Brown University trained physician, who is multilingual, has dual citizenship and is proud to call Cheraw home. Looking for a quieter place to practice medicine, where he could build relationships with his patients and other community members, Salim was intrigued when his medical colleagues in a nearby town encouraged him to check out Cheraw and our community hospital.
“Once I visited Cheraw and met some of the people of this town, I knew this was the place for me. I enjoy living in a place where people are friendly, down home and approachable,” states Salim.
“I grew up during the war in Lebanon, where bombs and barricades were a part of my childhood. In difficult circumstances like that, I learned how important family is to me. Even though we do not all live near one another, we remain a close family. One of my sisters lives in Paris, France and my other sister lives in Lebanon with her family. As you can see from some of my pictures, I have five wonderful nephews, Kevin, Karl, Alex, Bruno, and Ralf who are very special to me,” shares Salim, “When I am not working or spending time with my family, I enjoy traveling, reading, snow skiing and swimming.”
