More About This story:
A Lifetime of Love
But once I start and see the painting evolving, it inspires me to finish. Every painting becomes a part of me, and when a painting is completed, it is so rewarding," she said.
"I enjoy acrylics and pastels, but I always come back to watercolors. I took art lessons from Jane Jackson of Florence in the eighties, and she was the one that got me into watercolors. I have to keep two or three paintings going at one time. That way, I can work on a painting for a while and then walk away from it. Each time, I return to the work, it gives me a fresh perspective. I am very critical of my own work. After I complete a painting, I don't like to go back and look at it later. I always find something I would do differently."
In addition to enjoying using the talents that God gave her, Gloria also shares her love of art with 16 private students. "I am so proud of my students," Gloria beamed. "They are at different ages working on varying levels. Every child is different with different techniques so I find it interesting how each one approaches the subject matter in a unique way. It's amazing to watch them evolve."
When asked about her future aspirations, Gloria responded, "Over the past couple of years, I have redefined "success". I used to say success was to become a famous, well-paid artist. I still like that idea," Gloria said with a chuckle. "But now, my art is more than making a living. It's about doing something that I absolutely love, and having people appreciate what I do."
Note: Gloria is considering offering a Children's Summer Workshop at her Cheraw studio. If interested in the classes or commissioning a piece of art, you may contact Gloria at 843.537.9819 or email her at gvturner@bellsouth.net. |
