Five Minutes With: Lindsay Bennett
Executive Director of the Cheraw Arts Commission

As a regular feature of DiscoverCheraw, a person of local interest shares their thoughts on Cheraw.

What is a dream you have for the arts in Cheraw?
To have a fully engaged and integrated arts community which is reflected through our businesses, retail outlets and participation of our residents.

If you could share one of Cheraw's attributes to someone who has never heard of Cheraw, what would it be?
Cheraw is a lovely, quaint town with historical buildings and extremely friendly people. And not only are Cheravians friendly, they have a strong sense of pride in their hometown.

What is your greatest achievement?
I hope that I have made some impact in Cheraw, and through my involvement in the arts, my church and the community, life here is a little bit better.

What role can each of us play to insure Cheraw's future success?
Volunteerism is so important in a small town like Cheraw. Whether it's at church, our schools or another organization in town, volunteers are essential to our town's success.

What Lindsay Cannot Live Without:
1. My family.
2. My faith and my relationship with God.
3. My friends which includes my co-workers

New Web Site Design

After an extensive redesign, the Town of Cheraw has launched its web site, www.cheraw.com, with a dynamic, new look.

Created by Cheraw's TrueBlue Advertising, the redesigned site provides online visitors dramatic improvements in navigation, uniformity, appearance, and accessibility.

With eye-catching images of the town, the online visitor has immediate access to the web site's major topic areas that allow browsing and searching through information categorized by subject tabs that include: About Cheraw, Living Here, Visitors, Dining & Lodging, Shopping, Recreation & Arts and Town Government.

Cheraw mayor Scott Hunter believes the enhancements to the web site will make Cheraw more marketable as a destination for tourists and newcomers as well as give local residents an opportunity to stay better informed about Cheraw.

"Overall, the site has a vastly improved look and feel," Hunter said. "The enhanced graphics and the new page layouts provide visitors to cheraw.com an improved user experience making it easier to find what they are looking for and to know where they are within the web site."

One of the site's most popular features is the Calendar of Events with Event Search. The calendar lists all town activities including Sports & Athletics, the Cheraw Arts Commission, Community Happenings, Special Events, Town Meetings, Camps, Classes, Festivals, and the Teen Center.

The site was financed in part with funding from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism by a grant written by Sarah Spruill of the Cheraw Visitors Bureau.
